Inergetics Initiates Phase II Development of its CBD-Based Supplements
Inergetics, Inc. recently announced that it has started the second phase of development towards the launch of its proprietary line of natural cannabidiol (CBD)-based nutritional supplements.
Inergetics is developing the line of supplements in partnership with Terra Tech Corp.
An important measurement of how efficiently a substance is taken into the body is bioavailability. Published scientific studies report CBD oral bioavailability of 10-20 percent. Efforts to increase its bioavailability and therapeutic benefits in the body is a key point of differentiation to CBD products. Bioavailability is assessed through pharmacokinetic (PK) studies, which help describe what the body does to an ingested substance and its movement throughout the body. This is an important test to conduct to establish absorption and efficacy of a substance.
“Enhancing oral absorption and how quickly CBD quickly CBD gets into the bloodstream is but one of the challenges for the industries. A PK study is underway in collaboration with our international R&D alliances using new technology applied to our CBD – a technology that is well proven especially with lipid soluble nutrients,” said Carl Germano, RD, CNS, CDN, Chief Scientific Officer, Inergetics. “We are confident the outcome will result in a product that sets the gold standard for efficiency and effectiveness as compared to what exists in the marketplace today.”
In addition to improving oral bioavailability of CBD, the company’s goal is to enhance its formulations with other dietary sources of cannabinoids that complement CBD. Through Inergetics’ international R&D alliances, the company has successfully obtained an additional cannabinoid that serves as a counterpart to CBD’s effect in the body, which will be a vital component of the finalized formulas.
“These R&D efforts provide for the innovation necessary to help us gain a competitive advantage and sustain long-run growth of our company,” said Michael James, CEO. “In addition to our distribution and brand building initiatives to address customer demands and market competition, we will continue to nurture our R&D strengths to focus on new manufacturing technologies and processes that result in significant product improvements.”
According to Inergetics, its CBD-based supplements are expected to be distributed through medical cannabis dispensaries in 2015.
